Tower Bridge Exhibition and Southwark Arts Forum Present:
Level 2 South & C Yard Engine Room.
Contemporary art exhibition space in Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge Exhibition & Southwark Arts Forum are collaborating to provide London with a new rolling exhibition space.

Tower Bridge is the most famous bridge in the world, opened in 1894 it has been a world renowned landmark ever since, with hundreds of thousands of visitors to the exhibition each year. The bridge has views all over London from its two walkways and its’ Victorian architecture provides a spectacular setting for the presentation of art to the public. Tower Bridge Exhibition believes that contemporary art is a very important aspect of life in London and the art created by Londoners well worthy of exhibition to the visitors of Tower Bridge. In collaboration with Southwark Arts Forum, two rooms in the Bridge will be converted to exhibition spaces for contemporary art, produced by residents of the neighbouring boroughs with a rotating exhibition schedule of four shows a year starting on the 31st March 2011.

The first 4 artists to have been chosen are

Nash Francis, Painter- Oil on Canvas

Rewati Shahani, Illustrator-  Ink on Indian cloth (Kora)

Martin Cottis, Sculptor

Simona Piantieri, Video artist and photographer & Jo Hutton, Sound Artist and Music Engineer

The pieces will be on display for a minimum of three months within the Exhibition

All forms of art visual practice are welcome for submission, however, work which references the Bridge’s surroundings, their past, present and future are most welcomed, but other and existing artworks will be considered. It is worth visiting the venue to get an idea of what is possible to make for it and install in it.

Applicants, to Level 2 South particularly, must take into account the high numbers of visitors in a non-traditional art display setting & as such work installed must meet health & safety requirements and be able to withstand the effects of public use. Feasibility of applications will be advised by the Bridge’s technical support team & work will be installed with their guidance.

C Yard Engine Room is open to 2D work.

Work chosen for the space will be created by members of Southwark Arts Forum (SAF).
Applications from art collectives, local community groups & schools are welcome, but will need a SAF Full Member in their team. Southwark Arts Forum membership annual subscription fee is £20 and comes with many other benefits. Sign up to SAF here.

Level 2 South & C Yard Engine Room has the potential to become a critically engaging creative hub, perfectly situated to showcase artists from Southwark to an international audience.

The successful artist(s) will be chosen by a panel of judges from Southwark Arts Forum & Tower Bridge Exhibition.

The work will be seen by the museum’s visitors for a duration of three months. The winning artist will be promoted using Tower Bridge Exhibition & Southwark Art Forum public relations channels.

After the initial artist(s) has been selected, we will be looking to engage with other artists interested in taking part in the second installation in three months time.
