Be part of history! Celebrate Tower Bridge’s 120th Birthday

Tower Bridge was officially opened on 30 June 1894 by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). The original report of the ceremony, in ‘The Times’ on 2 July 1894, states:

Under a cloudless sky and as part of a pageant which delighted tens of thousands of people, the new Tower-bridge, which deserves to be reckoned among the greatest engineering triumphs of the Victorian age, was declared open for traffic by land and water by the Prince of Wales with every circumstance of pomp and splendour.”

120 years later, the most famous bridge in the world is inviting YOU to join in the anniversary celebrations through a host of special offers and events…

Visit Tower Bridge Exhibition for £1.20 (120 pence)!

On the day itself, 30th June, we will be offering a special anniversary admission entry of £1.20 (120 pence) to the Tower Bridge Exhibition available for all visitors when purchased at the ticket office on the day (no advanced tickets for this date can be purchased). Each visitor will receive a special replica ticket of the original invite to the 1894 opening ceremony and can purchase a limited edition commemorative pin badge! Visitors can also step back in time by enjoying stories from the Victorians lurking around the Walkways and Engine Rooms…

WIN tickets to a special sunset event at Tower Bridge

The celebrations continue that evening with an exclusive, stylish sunset event on Tower Bridge’s spectacular Walkways – and you could be invited! We are delighted to offer 120 free places to this unique event to winners of our new social media competition. Each ticket includes entry for two people plus a drink token. Guests can enjoy Victorian-themed entertainment and a champagne and soft drinks cash bar – where better to raise a toast?

Keep your eyes peeled for special competition posts on our Facebook page and Twitter from 9th June and share on social media by midnight on 19th June. 120 ticket winners will be selected at random and notified by 5pm on Friday 20th June. To be eligible to win you must be available and in London on 30th June.

‘Tower Bridge: A Celebration of 120 Years’

From 2 June to mid-July, the new exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery in the City of London will display a series of etchings, paintings and memorabilia focusing on Tower Bridge. This fascinating exhibition will showcase a range of artwork, from Wyllie’s momentous painting of the opening day in 1894 to modern-day interpretations, primarily comprised of pieces from the City’s own collection. Be sure to pick up your one-off commemorative souvenir book showing images of the artworks from Tower Bridge Exhibition and Art Gallery gift shops.
