Unboxing years of history
Much of Tower Bridge's history is recorded on paper. Thousands of historic working documents, from intricate Victorian engineering plans to daily maintenance logs tell the story of London's defining landmark through time. To preserve these pieces of London’s engineering and social history, City Bridge Foundation, who owns and manages Tower Bridge has commissioned the expertise of The London Archives to restore and catalogue the Tower Bridge collection.
We visited The London Archives to explore some of the rare documents uncovered as part of this project with Tower Bridge Archivist, Dan. We also discussed the delicate process of repairing typical damage to these aging documents with Conservator, Maddie. This work ensures that records are secure, and that we can safeguard Tower Bridge’s history for future generations.
