Bascule Chambers

The cavernous brick-lined Bascule Chambers are London's greatest hidden space. 

They were built by a team of six experienced divers, who excavated the gravel and clay that formed the riverbed, as an operational area to allow for the movement of Tower Bridge's huge 400-ton counterweights used during Bridge Lifts.
